I design websites. I do not sell templates. As a matter of fact it is all over my website that I do not do templates, ever. But a little over a year ago a new client came along and said he was looking for a template. He said he wanted a website built that looked cool and that he would update it. I never told him I would give him a template, as a matter of fact I told him that he seemed like a busy guy and that I would be there to do the updating of his site for him. So what I offered him (verbatim) is: ********* $365 Includes: 5-7 page site designed and implemented Hosting if needed Up to 100 Email Addresses (if hosting with me) Flash Design (2 max) Logo Design and / or Manipulation Contact form on site (PHP) Free Updates for the existing content of the site (once site is designed and implemented) 1 Year - 24/7 Support (just email or call me anytime for any reason) Submission of your URL to over 200 Search Engines quarterly After one year, if you like to continue my services I just invoice you an additional $365 on the 1 year anniversary date. ********** Now... The anniversary date has passed. I sent 3 invoices to the email address of the guy that started this agreement. I sent a 30 day notice, a 7 day notice and a 1 day notice. There was no reply to any of them. I waited 10 days after the account was due to be renewed because that is what I say I will do in my Terms Of Service. And on this 10th day I filed a DMCA (copyright infringement) with the company that is hosting his site. I did this because, again, I do not do templates. And in my TOS it says: ********** All web site designs developed by and implemented by <my real name here> will remain the Intellectual Property of <my real name here> and domain names purchased by <my real name here> will not be transferred to the Customer if at any time either <my real name here> or the Customer cancel the Customers account, or the Customer violates any credit terms or other terms associated with this agreement and or their account. ********** and ********** Any artwork, images, or text supplied by and / or designed by <my real name here> on behalf of the customer and / or for use on the clients website, will remain the property of <my real name here>. ********** Among other things. I do not sell templates, I sell a service. If someone thinks they bought my designs, I'm sorry, but they didn't, and I have gone out of my way to make this clear. Anyway, today I get a call from someone else that works at the place I did the site for, actually the owner. He tells me that the person I was working with is no longer with his company, and the whole time he thought what they purchased was a template. I explained to him what I just explained here and I told him that I would sell him the design outright and royalty free for $99. He talked me down to $75. Which is cool. I just don't like my work out there, and people hacking it up and making it look bad which makes me look bad, which is one reason why I hold the rights to my work. The other reason is, since I don't do templates and every site is designed from scratch there is much more work involved, and if someone is done with their site, moves on to another company or whatever, then I am free to take that design with me and sell it to someone else who may have similar needs. I have been doing webs now for over 10 years, and this is honestly the very first time I have been in this situation. I kinda feel like a jerk, and although I had no intention of misleading anyone it appears that there was some confusion. But all in all I think the offer of buying my design for only $75 is a sweet offer to resolve the situation. Am I being a jerk? And if I am, do you think it's justified? I have purchased a template. I have a website using Yahoo small business. I am trying to figure out how to put this template on to my site. I really need help. I am familiar with HTML but not CSS and it uses alot of CSS. Here are the instructions it gives me: BASIC TEMPLATE INSTRUCTIONS Before getting started you should always duplicate this folder in another location, in order to refer back to original documents when needed. In order to use the same fonts as the sample file you will need to copy and paste the fonts located in your FONTS folder, into your fonts’ folder on your computer. Location Of folder: My Computer/WINDOWS/fonts Refer to the style.css file (located inside the SITE folder, folder name: styles] along with the html web pages) when needing to modify your text, colors, and some background images and colors. View your source code to identify which items you want to modify. This web template is designed in advanced cascading style sheets format. In order to work with this template you will need some understanding of how to use cascading style sheets. To learn more go to http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp. THERE ARE 2 VERSIONS OF LAYOUT DESIGN TO CHOOSE FROM. All web template files for the table-based site are located in the folder named “TABLE BASED SITE”. All web template files for the CSS site are located in the folder named “CSS TABLELESS SITE”. To modify your Business Logo, open the image called “logo-header.psd”, located in your SLICED PSD FILES folder. To do this you will need Adobe Photoshop- or any other software program that handles PSD files. While modifying your logo/header image you may find it easier to embed your “service times/join us” information with it. If you do this, simply delete the current “join us” text/css info from each page. Remember to save the file, in the appropriate format(jpg or gif), to the images folder. Also, be sure that your HTML code reflects your re-named image(s). The same applies to all the images that are modifiable in the SLICED PSD FILES folder. Resolved Question: Outlook Express Keeps asking for my Name/Password and then fails to load. Next day works fine for couple hrs?

I run Win Xp with Outlook Express and My emails are hosted by Yahoo. As My web sites are hosted by Yahoo Small businesses. So recently I will be doing business on my computer as usual and then out of nowhere OutLook will ask for my username and Password, Well Knowing I did not change my password Ill just click Ok and it will not work and just prompt me over and over. So Ill shut it down till the next day and itl work just fine. Just to be sure someone is not trying to guess my password locking me out of yahoo, I go to Internet explorer and log into my email just fine. So its not that yahoo locked my account. So I have no idea why this is happening. But this happened to me yester day and then this morning it worked as if nothing happened. and then today I am going about my business and I hit Send receive and Wham!! Prompt me again!!! Anybody have any Ideas what the heck this is all about??? It can not be a Virus because If I switch IDs It does not do the same crap with my other ID's under Outlook Express.. I am so annoyd with this crap so If Anyone knows please HELP!! Feel free to go to www.honuheroes.org and fill out my user web form and tell me the answer there!!! AlohaWell today It works but when I send out a message it prompts me and now I can not send any messages!!!UPDATE!!! Well I do not see how it can be a server Problem. Here is why. Ok so I noticed that I kept getting the Prompt for Uname/Password when I tried to send emails, So I deleted my mail in my outbox and I was able to receive mail but any time I would try to send it would prompt me. So I thought, Maybe it is something that changed on my computer somehow.. So I did a system restore to a month back!!! The only change it made was not I get the Uname+Password prompt when I try to send or receive mail now so the entire mail will not work.. So I go ahead and just add another User and Put in my same information and it works instantly and it starts right out by downloading all the mail I missed over the last day or two!! And now It sends and receives just fine but only from the new User.. So what the heck happened I havnt a clue!! I did not make any changes what so ever.. Perhaps a virus, But I did a Micro Trend Virus scan and only had a few cookies... Its funky!!! more

Hello, YAY! I got my first web design project. This is for a friend, and I dont intend to charge full price, but frankly I dont know what to charge. Basically this friend is a Psychologist and the project sounds easy. Basically a 5-page site - a simple template, and she will provide the text. She wants me to register the URL, get the hosting set up, and put the site together. I have my own reseller account so basically the hosting will be free for her -or I can charge a nominal fee. build it into the cost. I dont know if I should charge her a hourly rate or just one flat price for everything, but the entire site should probably take a day to do. I figure that I want to do a few of these to build up my portfolio and go from there. And since she is a friend, my thinking is that I wont gouge her with the price or anything. But I really dont know what would be a fair price. What do you suggest? She has another friend who is talking about getting a website and her husband also has a small business but no site.. So this could be the beginning of something.. Oh another question. How much space should I allot for a site like this? Ok so I finally broke down and bought the two dollar domain name from Yahoo small business today... of course they don't tell you that they wont let you edit your own html and you have to use there templates. (unless you pay 12 bucks a month indefinitely) Luckily they let you do a "domain redirect" meaning you host somewhere else and redirect people to that domain name... I guess? Basically what I need is a place to dump my html that will host it. I built it using all external stuff- widgets attached to blogs & Flickr/ images through embedded photobucket links, basically what I'm saying is it doesn't have any files that need to be included with it- just the html. Is there a place that will host a site of small size where they will just let me dump my html and not give me all this template and runaround crap? more
